This past Thursday, January 29th, my company (Grubb & Ellis) held it’s annual Awards Ceremony at the Pacific Club, in Newport Beach, CA so our offices closed early since everyone was expected to attend. During the awarding ceremony, I was surprised to have been recognized for my work in 2008. I am a Marketing Assistant (MA) for the Walker-Simpson Retail Investment Team and one thing I do for them is to create marketing materials for their listing pitches and design investment packages for properties we have been blessed to have listed under our team. (Side Note: My boss Dixie is the #1 broker for Grubb & Ellis OC area for 2008! Congratulations to Dixie!)
Last year, I was extremely motivated to learn Adobe Illustrator and In-Design after a meeting I attended with other MAs in the Newport Beach office. I was amazed at how they designed brochures, flyers, investments packages, etc on their own so I also wanted to learn to use the Adobe programs as well. In the past, I used WORD or POWERPOINT, but it just didn’t give me the options I needed to make my teams marketing materials more eye catching. So I decided to learn Illustrator and In-Design on my own. Some MAs took classes, but taking classes for a couple of days doesn’t really help me. I like to figure things out on my own and see how programs work. But when I get frustrated, then I’d call on Ryan, but I’m happy to say that I learned these programs by myself! :o) YAY!
My managers were very grateful to me during the awarding ceremony and this was the very FIRST TIME ever being recognized for my work in front of my fellow employees… Kinda nerve-racking to be standing up at the front, but I’m thankful to GOD for his blessings and for giving me the knowledge that I needed to learn these programs – it helped our company save a lot of money!! Knowledge: This is something Ryan and I always include in our prayers. Especially during these hard economic times we are all experiencing nowadays… We have to be more prayerful!!
I didn’t get a certificate, but I did get a Macy’s gift card from Laila R. (Sr. V.P, Business Operations Mgr.) and Kurt S. (Executive V.P. & Managing Director). I enjoy buying things for Ryan than I do getting things for myself so I plan to use it on getting him a new jacket or something :o). Oh, and since it IS better to have some sort of photo on a blog.. here’s a picture of my award x_X
***Congratulations to Ryan: He was blessed with a raise at work last week too :o)***
